We've not been able to get very far back on this line. We have searched and searched for Nell, Ellen Elizabeth, Tuck's birth certificate in 1889 (her daughter always celebrated her birthday on 4th January). After speaking to Louise's grandfather, Horie, who was Nell's son-in-law, it seems possible that William Tuck wasn't her father after all, but married her mother after Nell's birth. We think Nell's mother's name was Elizabeth Pritchard, so we then searched for a birth certificate for Ellen Elizabeth Pritchard, but again with no success. In both these cases, we searched several years either side of the 1889 date.

However, on Nell's marriage certificate to Ted Scales in 1908, she called herself Ellen Elizabeth Tuck and said that her father was William Tuck - she had, it seems, taken her step-father's name.
